M10 Blog

Hey! Welcome to the BLOG!

To Post Or Not To Post? Due To The Top-Twit-Twitter-Turmoil That's The Question

So who is on Post? I am! Here’s the link to my profile! https://post.news/dougcohen10 “Wait - I don’t even know what that is Doug….” you say? Read on.

The dumpster fire that is Twitter lately has me exploring other options. I haven't left, but I'm not actively marketing there much and none of my clients really are. I'm still there for now - mainly just talking a little sports trash, music and hunting antisemites (okay I'm kinda kidding but I'm kinda...not).

I find it pretty funny though to see that head Twitter Twit Elon Musk declared on November 1st that getting rid of the credibility and protection of verified accounts (flawed as the process for getting verified may have been which I wrote about on LinkedIn 6 years ago) was akin to "Power to the People" somehow. And yes I say he got rid of it because if anyone can buy verification for 8 bucks then it’s no longer a verification - it’s just a product to purchase. Some people immediately set up fake accounts, bought the blue checkmark and tweeted lies that went viral. Nice….. Without doing a deep dive on all of Musk’s Missteps this is just one of many examples of him throwing a bunch of crap at the wall to see what sticks (not much has) as he tinkers with one of the most important platforms in the world like a 7 year old with a new Lego set.

Now lo and behold he has promised to step down as CEO now that the "People" actually voted for him to do just that in his own poll. The poll he said the results of which he would abide by by the way.

What a mess.

So Post looks pretty cool so far…

So I signed up for Post and I like what I see there so far. That’s my profile above with widgets for multiple other platforms which I think is cool. I also signed up for Mastodon but frankly my first impression is that the decentralized approach with different servers is more than I want to think about. It seems complicated to me. Not very interested. Maybe I’ll look at Hive next - who knows, but right now I like Post.

Post isn’t in the app store - you can use it on the desktop and the mobile version works just fine with your mobile browser - just add the site to your home screen just like any other app and off you go. As of this writing you still need to request access and get added to a waitlist, but they are approving people pretty quickly and they’ve said they’ll be letting everyone in pretty soon anyway. They are even re-writing the entire app for a new release (code named Pulitzer).

Here’s the user interface for starting a post and as you can see it’s really set up as a microblogging platform - links, italics, attachments, blockquotes, ordered lists - the post options are nice and feature-rich. The platform boasts moderation as well to keep some civility. Not sure exactly how that piece will play out since I’m brand new there as of this writing but I’ve seen platforms with different degrees of moderation that do indeed help such as on Reddit. Don’t @ me about Reddit - I know it’s far from perfect and I don’t really market there but the moderation can be helpful - Reddit is just an example of where I’ve seen moderation in action.

So who is on Post? Give me a follow and let's connect there! 🙂
