Let's Rank The Five Detroit Lions Player Websites That You Can Visit!
I got to thinking as I’m talking to people about personal brands for student-athletes at multiple levels… I wonder how many Detroit Lions players have their own websites? As of June 2nd 2025 there were 90 players on the roster. I started Googling them one by one.
Obviously I found a ton of results. But aside from multiple college profiles (3-4 of them in several cases), entries on the Lions website, sites of other NFL teams they played for and lots of assorted others, I found a grand total of 5 websites that belonged to the players. And the NFL final rosters are only 53 with an additional practice squad of up to 16. So at a minimum 21 of these guys will NOT be on the Detroit Lions roster when the season starts. They may need to pivot towards the next step in their career sooner than they hope.
So why is this? Just about every one of these guys has an online presence. Why no ownership? Tons of results about the players—tons of content—none of which these fellas own.
It’s crazy to me.
Meanwhile in the Google results I see that D.J. Reed has a story. He told it to the Jets team reporter. That story is still on the Jets website. D.J. doesn’t play for the Jets. The Lions are his 4th NFL team. Very few guys spend their whole career with one franchise. And for better or worse, today, fewer guys spend their whole college careers with one school than in the past.
D.J. Reed is a Detroit Lion now. So your uniform may change, but YOU are still YOU. YOU should have YOUR story on YOUR website. Granted, part of the deal is to participate in and promote content for your employer and help promote the NFL—not just you. But athletes have opportunities to give back to the community, to build a following, to tell THEIR story and like anyone else, to own an online presence.
This is about personal branding. Not all websites and personal brands are created the same—believe me. So let’s “rank” the five Lions who are ahead of the game. The links to the sites are in maize:
Let's Rank The Five Detroit Lions Player Websites That You Can Visit!
5. Amon-Ra St. Brown - stbrownshop.com/ Keep in mind that if a player has a website at all he is way ahead of the curve since there are only five out of 90 that have one. But Amon-Ra c’mon…. there’s nothing there!
All it says on the home page is the following:
“Your recent order status
All in stock orders will ship immediately (allow 3-5 business days for updates).
All back orders will ship out 3-4 weeks from when your order was placed.
Thanks for your support and patience!”
This is on the home page - a status for my recent order that I’ve never placed. I’ve never even been to the website. This is amateur hour. GREAT player, needs work. There’s a cool visual of St. Brown below the text but there are no products to order anywhere on the “stbrownshop.com.” If you click the “about us” page you get two paragraphs on who he is. That’s it.
4. D.J. Reader www.reader98.com So here’s the thing. D.J. Reader is the only one of the five who isn’t a “household name.” Now to be clear, he’s no slouch. Dude has already played eight years in the league. He’s a beast. But he’s the only one here who hasn’t made a pro bowl. There are starting QBs in this league (Trevor Lawrence for one) who don’t have their own website. So D.J. Reader illustrates my point, a point that applies all the way down to a high school sophomore who is just starting to get recruited in his football journey, and everyone in between. You do NOT have to be an NFL Pro Bowl player to have a personal brand with some ownership of your presence online. Your name, image, and likeness. The only problem here, and why he isn’t higher, is that it appears they gave up on this site years ago…there’s some content from when he played with the Texans. His last season with the Texans was 2019… It’s too bad because he had the right approach.
3. Jared Goff www.jg16.store Okay, better. Not much about Jared himself per se, but he’s matching dollar for dollar every merch sale to donate to FATE, which currently supports 200 Detroit youth with real-life business projects and scholarship opportunities, and that indeed says a lot about Jared. A worthy cause that his brand JG16 supports and there is a lot of cool gear there.
2. Jahmyr Gibbs www.jahmyrgibbs.com Jahmyr Gibbs has a really nice website. Just the tabs of the menu bar at the top alone immediately let you know this guy is serious about his personal brand: Jahmyr Career Philanthropy Brands News/Media Contact That’s the whole suite - tells you who he is, what he’s done, what he stands for, brands he believes in and partners with, highlights from news stories about him, and how to reach him. A good blueprint for how to do it. There’s only one glaring issue: it’s not updated. There’s a lot of good content there but nothing in the last two years… C’mon Gibbs team—you’re asleep at the wheel. The guy is one of the best in the league, and not a word about his first two incredible seasons with the Lions which has obviously raised his profile.
1. Aidan Hutchinson thehouseofhutch.com You can accuse me of bias if you like; his dad and I were teammates at Michigan so I know him. But his website and the branding of “The House of Hutch” is fantastic. It’s a family affair which says a lot about Aidan’s values, and there’s a blog that focuses on their “heroes.” These are the inspiring young people fighting illnesses that House of Hutch supports with their nonprofit. Tons of content that will inspire you. Lots of great merch too. Worth a follow—dude is making a difference.
The thing is, this is NOT rocket science. Yes that’s easy for me to say since this is what I do, but anyone in any kind of spotlight has an opportunity to harness that spotlight to advance their cause, for themselves, their business, their story, their life!
